Ram Prasad(Amol Palekar) dupes his boss Bhavani Shankar(Utpal Dutt) by creating his twin personality Laxman Prasad Sharma, who is a clean-shaven spoilt brat and orthogonally opposite to the character of Ram Prasad. The movie is a series of hilarious sequences where the same person has to live the dual life of a mustached Ram Prasad and a cleanly-shaven music teacher Laxman Prasad. What happens next can only be described in one word as Hrishi Da himself terms it, "Golmaal".
Wonderful comedy without going overboard. The subtleness of the comic sequences get entrenched in your mind.
Amol Palekar is wonderfully understated in his dual role as the bewhiskered Ram Prasad and the clean-shaven Lakshman Prasad. His prospective father-in-law considers a moustache to be the epitome of trustworthiness, manliness and character, whereas those without the facial fungus are debauched and weak. Why and how this turn of events came about and how the situation resolves in the end is the musical, entertaining and charming story of Golmaal
An amazing comedy with Amitabh Bachan at his comic best. Full time-pass
