Guddi is a warm family drama about a film-crazy schoolgirl who decides she wants to marry no-one but Dharmendra ( playing himself). Jaya Bahaduri ( now Bachchan) is completely believable, fresh and charming as Kusum aka Guddi. When compared to the coiffed, posed and overly made-up heroines of the age, it is easy to understand why Jaya/Guddi completely swept the nation off its feet. Navin Nischol plays the silent lover, waiting for Guddi to realize that reel life is not the same as real life.
When one thinks of Jaya today, she comes across as matronly, even homely. One feels she was lucky to have hooked AB. This film shows why Amitabh was the lucky one. In "Guddi", you see the fresh, young Jaya, an actress of rare talent. She is girlish and chipper, but never irritatingly so. I adore this clip where you see Navin Nischol's character falling in love with her - her beauty , grace and the fabulous song are simply mesmerizing.
A musical with sublime poetry, one of the most beautifully crafted Indian films that has ever been made.
Sreedevi and Kamal Hassan in a touching film about unconditional love, with a twist at the end.
More than "Anand"-in-drag, Mili features the dark, brooding Bachchan and the young chirpy Jaya Bhaduri
