This almost Wodehousian storyline involving mixed identities, a pompous uncle with a walrus moustache and a professor masquerading as a chauffeur seems improbable, even silly; yet the chemistry between the actors, the lilting music and the witty comedy see it through. Chupke Chupke is a much-beloved film of generations; the likes of which are lamentably not seen today.
The movie is proof of the wit and the sense of humour that came with a lot of Hrishi Da's movies. The comic timing of every character is simply marvellous. The movie stands on the strength of its own story and acting with no help from special effects available in modern day movies. Gulzaar is as usual in competition with himself and outclasses himself in terms of screenplay and dialogues. Every character in the movie perfectly fits the role and plays it remarkably.Whoever said Dharmendra was just an action hero needs to watch this movie to change that opinion. His body language, his facial expressions and dialogue delivery are par excellence. Sharmila Tagore looks beautiful and has done a wonderful job of her role as Sulekha, Dharmendra's love interest in the movie. Amitabh and Jaya Bhaduri,in supporting roles, are equally fantastic and simply hilarious. With tantalizing music and characters you will fall in love with, this is a laugh riot of the yester years not to be missed!
